Mark Bixby Memorial, “The Forming Wave” – Unveiled. Long Beach, CA. August 10, 2012.

Mark Bixby Memorial

We just unveiled the Mark Bixby Memorial, “The Forming Wave”, on August 10, 2012. Mark Bixby came from one of Long Beach’s founding families that once operated ranches in the area. “The Forming Wave” is a representation of one of nature’s most incredible forces on earth. The energy of the wave is a representation of the energy and spirit that Mark had for life. He was a community leader, avid surfer, bicycle advocate, businessman and father of three.

Mark Bixby was one of five people killed in a plane crash at Long Beach Airport on March 16, 2011.

It was placed next to Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool (Long Beach, CA), which is currently under renovation. It is located at the intersection of Termino Avenue and Olympic Plaza.

This facility is famous for the 1968 and 1976 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials. It was also used as a training site during the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. This ART piece includes a programmed lighting system that will simulate a wave in motion.

It was a great turn out. The community of Long Beach really showed its support by coming out to see the unveiling….
